More than 3,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities are set to compete in 16 different sports.
The event will begin Sunday with an opening ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. featuring a parade of athletes and the lighting of the Special Olympics cauldron.
Competition will be held at several locations including Princeton University, Rider University and The College of New Jersey.
The games, which will run June 16 through June 20, are expected to draw 70,000 spectators, organizers say.
Several celebrities including Jane Lynch from Fox’s “Glee,” actress and model Brooklyn Decker and Michael Carter Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers are scheduled to participate.
